Providing comfort in times of need

USPG, through our Rapid Response Fund, enables churches in the Anglican Communion to provide food, practical support and spiritual comfort in times of emergency.

Working through the local church, USPG provided emergency funding following the Haiti earthquake in January this year, earthquakes in Malawi in December 2009, and a rat plague in Myanmar that left thousands hungry after crops were devoured.

A rapid response

USPG is in a unique position. Rather than having to establish networks, USPG can respond quickly by working through existing church structures, ensuring that aid can be moved efficiently to the most remote communities.

Local churches' intimate understanding of local geography, politics and customs means that aid is distributed fairly and to the neediest - regardless of their nationality or faith.

After the television cameras disappear and the media move on, you can be assured that the church is in it for the long haul. We will be there with them, working alongside communities as people rebuild their lives.

Nothing can be done to prevent natural disasters - but something can be done to be ready to help rebuild communities that have been torn apart.
